Whether you are a busy mother, a stay at home father, a college student, or just need some extra cash from you regular 9-5 – doing some side-work can help you make money from home. Some will just make you a few pounds a month, but others can become powerful money makers depending on the time you have to invest in them. There are scores of legit ways to add to your income, whether selling stuff, working from home or going online. After all, no matter how good a saver you are, a little bit more money’s always useful over here.

Best Ways to Make Money from Your Own Home
Everyone is going to have a different preference on what they can be bothered to do. Side hustles can be a bit boring and take a bit of time for the money to roll in. I’ve listed a few of my favourite ways to earn money as a side hustle from home, but it might be worth giving a few a try to see what you like best.
Complete Surveys for Money
It’s possible to make pocket money by filling in internet surveys. An increasingly popular way for people to make money is to fill out online surveys in their spare time. Research companies are always recruiting new members worldwide to answer surveys and test new products. For a few minutes of form filling, you can make a couple of quid which is paid as cash or rewards. You can bag up to £3 for some surveys!
I wouldn’t count these as a way to make money fast. It’s more something that you should keep ticking along in the background and draw out your balance infrequently. If you log in to the survey sites every day and check what’s there, do as many as you can and just keep that balance slowly racking up.
This isn’t an ad, but I really like Swagbucks (my referral link). They often have a free £10 sign up bonus and then they have enjoyable “tasks” to complete as well as surveys so you can rack up the points quite well on there. I’m currently playing Monopoly Go to try and get about £35 as a reward. So it’s not bad.
Make Things to Sell
Making things to sell isn’t an easy ride. You have a bit of an outlay at the start, so it’s by no means quick money. Making things to sell is essentially starting your own business, so give it a bit of thought before you start.
If you can already knit or sew, then you could start to sell to friends and family first. Otherwise, if you’re keen to start a venture that relies on a new skill, then do your due diligence before your start.
Making wax melts is a pretty popular side hustle and I can see why. It’s quite fun to do, you can mix your own scents and create fun shapes. The only trouble with this is that because it’s popular, you’ll have a lot of competition.
Making things is a gamble, but it’s also a fun side hustle.
Invest Your Money
Investments can be high risk and low risk. Lower risk investments have lower returns, but also a lower risk of losing everything. High risk investments offer high returns but there’s a big chance you could lose everything you’ve put in. This goes for all types of investments, such as stocks and shares or different types of ISAs. You could even invest in property or a business.
Basically, investing isn’t just stock market stuff, it’s anything that you put your money into that can give you a return or loss.
If you’re reading this blog, it’s likely you’re not rolling in cash. I’m not being rude, but my main readers are into money-saving and side hustles. They’re savvy and keen to get the best out of their money but they’re not affluent.
I’m not the sort of person to take any big risks, so high risk investments aren’t my cup of tea. Having said that, I’d like to build a pot of side hustle money I can invest in the stock market, just to see if I’ve actually got the hang of how things work, but that’s another article for another day.
I’ll finish this section by saying there are a lot of investment scams out there so do a lot of research and if it sounds to good to be true, it almost certainly is.
Sell your Unwanted Items
If you are looking to make a few quid, then selling your old bits and bobs that are cluttering up your room is a good idea. Facebook marketplace is a good place to get rid of big things like furniture, bikes and appliances. It pretty much guarantees cash and often you can get bites immediately after listing something, so it’s quick money.
You can also have a wardrobe clearout and list everything on Vinted or Ebay. Since Vinted came along and dominated the second hand clothing space, Ebay have dropped their fees for selling clothes.
My advice would be to sell things like band T-shirts and collectible clothing on Ebay for the proper price, then everything else needs to be a rock bottom price on Vinted.
You can also sell your unopened baby formula. There’s a website called Sell Formula that will buy it from you so you don’t have to waste it!
Freelance Work
Getting started in Freelancing can be a real money spinner. If you’re good at writing, proofreading or editing then it’s worth setting yourself up as a freelancer. There’s plenty of work out there, but it can be hard to find so make sure your CV and samples of your work stand out.
Once you’ve got your first few clients then it’s easier to find more, often your name gets passed around through word of mouth. My advice would be to get your own website alongside listing your services on places like Upwork and Fiverr. Then you have a full site to showcase your talent and let potiential clients see what you’re capable of.
Sell Feet Pics
Yes, you read that right, and yes, it is kinda seedy. But if you’re home and skint and don’t mind monetising the pervs out there (but don’t want to take your clothes off) then feet pics might be a nice money spinner.
People claim to make a lot of money out of this side hustle, but it’s one I haven’t tried. I don’t have pretty feet, and I don’t know if there’s much a of a market for the slightly battered feet of a middle aged mum.
When you sell feet pictures, make sure you’re being safe. Don’t accidently send out your address when using a payment app. I think there’s a way to hide it on PayPal, or you could ask for Amazon gift cards or a something else that can be sent digitally.
There are loads of vaguely adult ways to make money online if you don’t mind dealing with slightly sleazy people. I’m not just talking about Only Fans style content, but other things like selling feet pics.
