Thankfully there are loads of fun free things to do with your kids.
Have a friend over
When the school holidays come around, children go from seeing their friends daily to not at all and it can be hard for them. Imagine spending 6+ hours each day with all your favourite people, then suddenly you’re home without them and no one to play with.
Having a friend over to play is a great free way to keep your kids happy. The other child’s parents will no doubt welcome the offer and all it’ll cost you is whatever snacks and sandwiches you feed them for lunch. It should also give you a few hours to catch up around the home and maybe even put your feet up!
Play free board games
It’s natural to want to keep your children occupied and their minds busy, but it’s impossible to give them all your attention all of the days. It’s unrealistic to even try!
That’s why it’s so lucky I found a website that has all your favourite board games online for free. This means you can set your child up in front of checkers or snakes and ladders and they will always have an opponent.
I particularly like playing checkers, even though I never win!
Get lost in stories
Reading with your child is a great pastime. It brings them on with their literacy, it captures their imagination and it entertains them. Get your children to find a love of reading, they’ll be entertained for life. Pick fun-looking books that are highly recommended. The best way to get hold of free stories is your local library, books you already own and sites that offer free ebooks for kids. You might find some stories for yourself too!
Turn on the water
Hot, sunny days can make everyone agitated and crabby – children and adults alike! So instead of suffering the heat in silence, turn on the tap and let the water fun begin! If you pay rates only, your water bill won’t rise, and if you’re careful with the water and use it sensibly, you still won’t pay much on a meter.
Things like covering a full paddling pool can be a great way to conserve the water you’ve used. And using watering cans and wet flannels can be a great way to splash each other inside the the pool.
Go to the park
Most housing areas will have a park nearby. Take your troop to the local park, and if it’s in walking distance, you won’t spend a cent. Pack drinks and snacks to keep the kids there longer and if you’re lucky enough to have a large park near your home, you can make a full day of it!
