Creative activities usually conjure up the idea of the need for expensive craft supplies – but this doesn’t have to be the case. If you’re inventive, you can make anything a creative activity with some of the tihngs you probably already have in your home.

1. Play in a Sandpit
Playing in a sandpit is an absolute classic. The beauty of this activity is that it doesn’t cost anything at all (especially if you have a sandpit at home), which makes it one of the most cost-effective options on this list. The only thing you need to do is go outside and find a sandpit!

If your child loves music, then they won’t be able to resist the chance to make music at home! All you need to do is find some household objects like pots, pans, spoons, or anything that makes a noise and use them to compose your song. This is a fun way to spend time with your child on a budget, and it gives you opportunity to talk about the basics of music such as rhythm, tempo, melody etc.
3. Create Some Artwork
Some kids enjoy creating artwork on their own so this is another good idea for those who like to do things themselves. To create artwork with children you can use paint, fingerpaints or markers and have your kids create something. This could be a picture, drawing or collage that they created on their own. If you don’t want to spend money on expensive supplies, a pen and some plain paper will be enough.

4. Play a Memory Game
This is a fun way to practice memory skills with children who enjoy matching games. Depending on the age of the child you can choose different memory games for them to play such as matching game, memory verse game, rhyming game or a colour game. Another fave is the game where you list what you got from the shop, every player has to add an item when it’s their turn and they have to remember the entire list each go.
5. Build a Tower
This is an activity that will promote hand eye coordination skills. Children will build a tower with blocks or cards in order to reach the top of the tower before any other player does. . The child with the highest card or block on top is the winner. If you haven’t go any building materials, get inventive and stack stuff from around the home.
6. Table Top Racing
This is a game that will teach children about how to control emotions during competition and learning how to work together during a game. In this game, each player builds their own race track out of LEGO (and cars for their team to race around if you’ve got the parts) then race those cars around the tracks!
7. Record a Vlog
My son absolutely loves this activity. With Youtubers being massively popular with kids, it’s no surprise they want to emulate their heroes. You don’t have to record anything slick, or even put it online once it’s done. My son loves to record himself playing video games while he talks about what he’s doing.
