This site is all about saving money, so I’d be remiss not to include something about free ways to entertain yourself at home. As we all know, entertainment can be incredibly expensive!
After the past couple of years, most people’s finances have taken a hit. It’s alright suggesting you tighten the purse strings and stay in a bit more, but it seems like most of us have run out of things to do at home after staying in for so long. Thankfully, I’ve compiled this great list of things that will entertain you at home – FOR FREE!
Free Ways to Entertain Yourself at Home
The list is designed to have a little bit for everyone, so adults and children alike can be entertained without splashing the cash.
Play Free Games Online
Finding a good free games website is like finding treasure. I can easily while away a few hours playing games online, so a website that constantly has its new games on show is perfect for me.
Plays.org is a great place to find free games for both kids and adults alike. I’m particularly partial to Tetra Blocks, which (as you may have guessed) is a Tetris-inspired game you can play in your browser.
I haven’t played Tetris in years – not since I had it on my Original Gameboy (I’m showing my age, aren’t I?) so I was thrilled to find this game, and have since wasted many an evening playing it! Sadly, I think my time away really shows, as my top score is nothing to brag about!
Read Free E-Books
Reading can be an expensive pastime, especially if you have a tendency to plough through books. I use two places to get my hands on freebies (I understand there are many more, but wouldn’t like to recommend somewhere I haven’t personally tried).
I’ve used both Project Gutenberg, and the free section on Goodreads. Both have their pros and cons, but they’re a good place to start when you’re looking for free e-books. I find Goodreads a little hard to navigate but it’s quite good for downloading excerpts of books you might buy in the future. It’s definitely a good way to prevent yourself from wasting money on a story you won’t get on with.
Get Free Workouts on YouTube
If sitting at home feels too sedentary, then why not get active for free? There are thousands of tutorials and exercise regimes on YouTube, tailored to every ability.
I’ve dabbled in a bit of postnatal yoga on there and found it to be excellent. Some workouts need exercise equipment, but there are plenty that don’t. This means you can get fit in your own home without spending a penny!
Watch TV Series & Films for Free
The biggest free streaming service out there is 4OD and I can’t quite get over just how much quality entertainment it possesses. Sadly it does have adverts, which is to be expected for such a good free service, but they’re not intrusive and I think it’ a small price to pay for the range of shows it has to offer. I have a penchant for reality dating shows and my personal recommendations are Celebs Go Dating, Married at First Sight, and First Dates.
Other good streaming services are BBC iPlayer, Demand 5 and ITV Hub. These are all great alternatices if you can’t afford a premium streaming service but can’t find anything to watch on live TV.
Learn Cleaning Hacks on TikTok (And Spring Clean)
It’s a sad truth the I’m only ever motivated to clean after watching other people clean their homes on TikTok. Get yourself on TikTok and follow the hashtag ‘cleantok’ to find people who make satisfying cleaning videos, show you cheap and easy cleaning hacks, and generally have very enviable homes.
