I talk a lot about saving money. I’m a firm believer fun doesn’t have to cost a thing.
I mean, sure, a trip to the cinema and a restaurant is nice. So is drinks with the girls or a weekend away, but you can’t spend all your money on leisure activities. It would be great if you could – but life always gets in the way.
That’s why I’m always looking for ways to entertain myself for free (or really, really cheap). I’ve got three kids so I’m home most nights while their in bed. Things like going for a walk or run in the evenings are off the cards unless I plan ahead. Most nights are, admittedly spent in front of the telly, but sometimes I just want to feel like I’m giving my brain a bit of workout.
Rather than spending money on puzzle books, I’m a bit of a fan of free online games. My fave is Solitaire, but I play so often I sometimes need something a little different.
Below are my top games to play for free.
Freecell Solitaire
Freecell solitaire is similar to the regular solitaire, but much more of a challenge (or at least I think so, anyway). It has four free cells in which you can store cards while you move the others about. The aim is still to get all the cards from each suit stacked up in sequence from Ace to King until you have none left. You’d think it would be an easier win because of the free cells at the side of the game, but I find it a bit harder than regular solitaire.
Wordseach Games
I’ve loved wordsearches since I was a little kid, but constantly buying wordsearch books can get expensive. The free Daily Wordsearch game is perfect for any wordsearch-lovers like me. It’s free to play and just as much of a challenge at the wordsearches that come in books and puzzle magazines. It shows ten words at a time and every time you find one, the list replenishes until you are done. There’s also a countdown that tells you how many words you have and a timer to tell you how long you’ve been playing. I like to try and beat my previous records but some days are harder than others!
Hidden Object Games
Hidden object games have always been a source of joy for me too. I’ve only ever known them on paid quiz machines when I’ve been out and about with my friends, so to find a free version is really exciting. Hidden object games are exactly what you’d expect them to be – a game where objects are hidden on screen and you have to find them. There is usually a selection of object laid out on screen for you to see and you have to look for them in the main picture. You can zoom in for a more accurate view, or sit closer to the screen to inspect every detail. I don’t really think there’s a knack to this sort of game – just luck! Some games are harder than others, but they’re all loads of fun!
