How the Recent Lockdown Has Changed the Face of Modern Relationships

AD

There’s no denying recent adjustments to everyday life have changed lots of things forever. These changes don’t exclude relationships, but interestingly, not everyone is experiences the same differences.

A person’s lovelife is often very nuanced. Even those perpetually single people have their quirks, preferences and goals. Dating can provide a strange landscape, relationships can falter and singles can become couples overnight. All of these things have remained true after the changes lockdown has brought. They seem to be the only constants, however. Everything else is looking pretty different after a long summer indoors.

These are the things that seem to have changed when it comes to love:

There was an uptick in online dating

While online dating has been a popular option for at least the last decade, people’s approach to it was much more casual in the past. Before the lockdown people could travel freely, attend events with large numbers of people and be faced with the opportunity to meet a special someone at any moment.

Once the lockdown took hold, people were forced to stay inside. Single people became isolated and the likelihood of meeting dropped to zero. That’s when free dating sites uk became a big hit. Sites like Match Me Happy attracted a lot of attention and made some lovely romantic pairings.

These changes seem to be here to stay since the lockdown has eased. Online dating gives you a chance to meet someone without any of the pressure. You can get to know people over video chat before arranging a date in the flesh. It can save lots of time and energy when it comes to finding out if you click, and if you do, you’ll feel more at ease when you finally meet in person.

More people were certain about their soulmates

relationships and lockdown

Nothing tests a relationship more than weeks spent at home together with no one to visit, nowhere to go, a shortage of snacks and rationed loo roll. It’s the kind of thing that makes or breaks a relationship.Thankfully, for a lot of people (myself included) it cemented the fact that the person you had chosen to be with was the perfect person for you. There’s no one else in the world I’d have rather spent weeks locked down with than my husband. I saw a lot of heartwarming stories where newer relationships celebrated engagements after the certainty lockdown has brought them.

A few relationships failed

Sadly, not all relationships made it through the lockdown. Being forced to spend time with someone who isn’t right for you magnifies your mismatch tenfold. A few couples I know broke up, but seem happier for it.

Spending every waking moment with someone that isn’t right for you isn’t great for you or them. I suspect the lockdown has accelerated the end of many more relationships than the one I’m aware of!

While a few of people I know are taking the time to enjoy being alone, a few more have jumped straight into online dating. It really does seem like everyone is doing it!
