Edgy Party Outfit Inspiration for the Festive Season

Christmas is around the corner and it’s party season! Chances are, you’ll be attending more than one social event this December. No doubt you’ll attend your own work’s Christmas do, and maybe your partner’s too, then there’s bound to be another Christmas party on the cards, not to mention new year’s eve celebrations!

With all these events on the horizon, you’re probably looking for some outfit inspiration. If you’re like me, you won’t want to blend in to a sea of Mrs Christmas outfits and you’ll want something that stands out for all the right reasons.

Below are some tips for choosing an edgy Christmas party outfit that’s festive enough for the season.

Wow in thigh high boots

Thigh high boots have always been for the super stylish – you need a certain ‘look’ to pull them off. They’re not your average footwear, and they’re designed to turn heads.

A lot of people associate thigh high boots with a raunchy aesthetic, but that doesn’t have to be the case. If you prefer a more modest outfit, thigh high boots paired with an oversized white shirt worn as a dress is a great look. It’s effortlessly chic but doesn’t show off off a lot of flesh if that’s not your bag.

If you prefer slightly more gothic vibes, pair thigh high boots with a dark coloured lace or velvet dress for a festive finish.

Jewel Toned Party Dresses

Jewel tones are are notoriously rich, deep tones that are perfect for a slightly more edgy Christmas look. If you want to step away from the traditional red Christmas part dress variations, consider shopping for jewel toned party dresses.

If you’re looking for something that stands out from the crowd, look into dresses that have a more unusual style. Cut-out dresses are always popular for that edgy look, but ultra low cut can also be a great look.

If you prefer something that covers your a little more, look into slinky midi dresses or sleek maxis with a slit.

Accessorise Like a Queen

Just because it’s Christmas, doesn’t mean your own headwear has to be a Santa hat. Think about investing in some outlandish accessories. Maybe a tiara will complete you look. Perhaps a decorative belt or opulent earrings will complete the outfit.

You can easily transform even the most plain of outfits in to something with edgy glamour by added a few finishing touches. Bags, belts, shoes and hair accessories are a good place to look for ways of making the outfit look a little extra special.

Think Beyond Dresses

I will say that my heart is always with a dress and 99% of the time I will favour one for an on-trend party look, but sometimes you have to think outside the box. There’s a reason the Fleabag jumpsuit went viral.

Choosing a jumpsuit or a playsuit may not seem like the obvious choice, but it might well be the best one for a really unique look.

A jumpsuit can create chic lines and a sleek silhouette. You can go for sleeves, no sleeves, revealing or modest and still look effortlessly sultry.

Makeup Can Finish the Look

For a truly edgy look, you need the right makeup. The truth is, you don’t need to go all out goth, or full-on experimental colour, you just need something a bit striking.

From a metallic high-shine glitter eye shadow, to a vampish lip colour, or even humongous lashes, make sure your makeup matches your outfit. Even if you prefer to be quite understated, you can get away with bold eyeliner flicks and a sheer lip gloss. After all, edgy makeup completes an edgy outfit.
