Top Tips for Setting Up the Perfect Home Office

AD

The global pandemic has resulted in many changes to life as we knew it, even as lockdown restrictions start to ease. One massive change many of us have been faced with is that the companies we work for have closed down their offices, meaning we have to work from home permanently. With that said, makeshift workspaces will no longer suffice.

If you have been working at your dining table or using a laptop on the sofa, it’s time to invest in a proper desk so that you don’t end up with any aches and pains. If possible, try and set up your home office in a separate location to your chill out zone, because you’ll find it difficult to switch off if you can see your workspace while you’re trying to watch TV or sleep.

It’s important that your desk is set-up to match your height so that you don’t have to stretch or crouch in order to use your computer. You should also invest in a comfortable chair. Consider going ergonomic if you can as this will prevent any prolonged damage to your back, neck and arms.

When it comes to your home office equipment, you might also need a new printer. A multi-functional device is probably your best bet because it will be able to print, scan and photocopy without the need for multiple devices, which you probably don’t have space for. Have a chat with your employer and see if they can expense any of the office equipment you’ll need to do your job.

You should also consider the lighting in your office space. Natural light is best as humans are fine tuned to work during daylight and relax when it’s dark, so locate your desk near a window if possible. If not, make sure your overhead light isn’t shining directly on your computer screen as this will cause glare and may lead to eye strain.
