The thing about British summer is that it’s hard to know how to dress. The sun only tends to stick around for a few days at a time, and your wardrobe becomes as confused as the weather!
Thankfully there are some some great choices on the Femme Luxe website. I received some gorgeous clothes to help me look cool on these hot days. I’ve recently chatted about a monochrome summer wardrobe, but this article is going to be all about colour!
Looking Cool in the Heat!
It’s super hot, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still look your best. Even if you’re feeling a bit melty under the sun, you can look amazing with these casual looks.
Short dresses
Short dresses are basically my go-to for this weather. It’s so easy just to throw one on, feel cool, put no effort in, and look amazing. I love white dresses for keeping out the heat, but you can always avoid plain white if it’s not your style.
The dress pictured is gorgeous as it’s white with a twist. It’s got a beautiful hazy marble effect in shades of purple. The high neck is a fab contrast to the short hemline and the sleeveless style is ideal for stopping you from getting too hot.
For laid back footwear, pair with trainers or flat sandals. If you want to dress it up, wear heels and accessorise with necklaces, belts and stiletto nails.
Midi dresses
Midi dresses are also having a moment. Briefly thrown out of favour in the early 2010s, midi dresses are back, and they’re everywhere! They are another staple piece can be dressed down or worn to party!
Sleek black dresses are a firm favourite in the midi style, but you could choose something loose, floral and floaty for a more bohemian look.
Denim shorts
I don’t think there’s ever been a decade where denim shorts aren’t a summer must-have. They go with absolutely everything, from vest tops to hoodies and everything in between. For a perfect summer wardrobe, grab a pair in every colour.
Cycling short co-ords
I can’t get enough of co-ords. I blame Love Island for their popularity, but honestly, they’re such an easy style piece. They can be worn as the set intends, or thrown into a capsule wardrobe for some mix and match outfit options.
This is my favourite co-ord set (pictured). It’s just a black crop top and cycling shorts but the shorts are high waisted and the crop top has a string to ruche the bottom and create a lovely shape.
Dungarees
Sometimes known as overalls (depending on where you’re from), you can’t go wrong with a pair of dungarees. I love my denim dungarees, but I can’t stop lusting over bright print patterned ones either. If I had all the money in the world, I’d fill my wardrobe with a range of awesome dungarees.
Flared co-ords
Another favourite are flared trouser co-ords. Similar to the cycling short set, you can wear them as a no-brainer outfit choice or mix and match for a variety of looks. Flared and wide leg trousers are incredibly on trend, and as they’ve got space for your skin to breathe, can also keep you cool.
Crochet beach cover ups
Crochet beach cover ups are for way more than just the beach. They look amazing and can add a light layer to a skimpy outfit without causing you to overheat. Go for a white one for a very summery look and throw it on over a vest top and denim shorts. Don’t underestimate the cost, often they are handmade, so if you want to save money, consider making one yourself!
Skater dresses
Skater dresses were everywhere in the early 2010s (thanks New Girl), and they’re making a comeback now. Look for ditzy floral prints for a modern take and pair with chunky shoes.
Maxi skirts
Pair a maxi skirt with a bodysuit or a bikini top for a beach casual look that’s suitable for anywhere. My favourite type of maxi skirt are the ones with pockets, so I try not to settle for any without. I don’t actually carry anything in the pockets but skirts and dresses with pockets are probably the best thing you’ll ever buy!
